With the growing interest in social networking and the impact of those ‘virtual influencers’, it is worth checking out an article featured in the Wall Street Journal about the rise of Reddit.com (recently purchased by Condé Nast), Del.icio.us (bought by Yahoo), Newsvine.com and StumbleUpon.com to name but a few.

Google made the online world spin around a few times with the acquisition of DoubleClick, the ad serving agency, on Friday 13 April 2007. Reported as a dangerous virtual monopoly by some, it is very likely to cause some unrest within Yahoo! and MSN.

A fascinating report by Forrester is suggesting that the demand for web design services in the US is showing no signs of slowing down. This is putting pressure on agencies which are suffering from a shortage of qualified employees in everything from copywriting to account management. A trend that we may well be experiencing the UK.

An article by eMarketer highlights interesting trends in the UK online advertising sector: 56% of UK businesses spend more than £10,000 per year on paid search; e-consultancy estimates the market for search engine optimisation services, or natural search, reached £147million in 2006, an increase of 50% over 2005.

With the rise of web video, it’s no surprise to learn that Microsoft will be launching Silverlight a player that can display Web applications on both Windows and the Mac in Internet Explorer, Firefox or Safari. The download of the player will be less than two megabytes reports CNetNews.com.
